Taylor Swift’s mom, Andrea Swift, has been battling breast cancer since 2015, and now she has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The Shake It Off singer revealed the news in her new Variety cover story which was promoting her new Netflix documentary Miss Americana.
While filming the documentary – which will premiere later this month at the Sundance Film Festival – Swift found out that her mom’s cancer had returned. And, the 30-year-old said that her mom was going through chemo, which is a hard enough thing for a person to go through.

“While she was going through treatment, they found a brain tumor. And the symptoms of what a person goes through when they have a brain tumor is nothing like what we’ve ever been through with her cancer before. So it’s just been a really hard time for us as a family,” explained Swift.
Her mom’s health is one of the biggest reasons Swift changed up her traditional touring schedule in 2020. Instead of being on the road for nine months out of the year like she’s done in the past to promote an album, Swift will be promoting Lover with just four stadium dates in America, and a few shows on the festival circuit in Europe.
Swift explained that they don’t know what’s going to happen, and they don’t know what treatment they are going to choose. The singer wants to be there for her mom, and she says limiting her touring this year was the decision she needed to make considering what’s going on with her mom.

In addition to her mom’s health situation, Swift also changed up her touring schedule because she wanted to perform in new places and do things she hasn’t done before, like Glastonbury. Swift hasn’t done festivals much in her career, and she says they are fun because they bring people together in a cool way.
When it comes down to it, though, Swift wants to work as much as she can handle with everything that’s going on at home. And, she wanted to figure out a way to work and be available to her mother as much as possible.
Taylor Swift says that her mom is the guiding force in her life for nearly every decision she makes, and it was a big deal for her to speak publicly about her mom’s illness.
